CPA are currently working on projects in Tanzania in Ethiopia and have completed projects in South Africa. To read more about our operations, please click on the links to the left.
Most of our projects are in north Tanzania.
Projects include: school support and infrastructure; irrigation; training of mountain and safari guides; Aids education through drama; cultural tourism to support local communities; and a new community to offer vocational training and medical backup to people affected by HIV/Aids.
You can visit some of these projects as part of a safari or Kilimanjaro climbing holiday.
We also organise small group departures to visit and support our Tanzania projects.
In a remote corner of the Simien mountain plateau we support the Arkwasyie Medical Aid Project.
The main purpose of this important project is to bring an Ethiopian qualified Health Officer on regular visits to the remote Simiens.
You can visit this area as part of a Simiens Trek and even climb Ras Deshen - Africa's fourth highest mountain.
Here is the link to the online album of pics from the last BDO Simiens expedition (Nov 06).
CPA support southern Africa in a number of ways, one example is the Keiskamma Project in South Africa. Read more about it here.
Also below is information about the Calabash fund in South Africa that CPA are supporting
In 1999, Calabash Tours had been established for two years. Many tourists from around the world had experienced tours into the townships around Port Elizabeth and engaged with children and adults in these poverty stricken neighbourhoods.
Often these visitors felt moved to make a donation to schools, but this was done in an unstructured way. In 1999, Marion Gate, took a township tour with Paul Miedema. Marion had recently arrived in Port Elizabeth from Scotland and she was so moved by the dire need she saw, that after a couple more tours she wanted to get involved in long term development with the children.
She proposed to Paul that they form a Trust in order to manage the donations and direct the money into projects that would make a real difference to the future of the children. And so the Trust was formed, with Paul Miedema as Chairperson and Marion Gate as Trust Manager.
